Tips for Choosing a Classy, Understated Diamond Engagement Ring

People have many different preferences when it comes to engagement rings. Some people like big, bold and trendy engagement rings. Others like classy, understated diamond rings. If you're looking for the second type of engagement ring -- whether for yourself or for the person you are hoping to propose to -- then you might be looking for some advice. If you remember these tips while you're shopping for a ring, you will hopefully end up with a ring that has the look that you have been hoping for.

Choose a Slim Band

When purchasing a ring, many people look specifically at the stone. However, you should also pay attention to the band. In many cases -- particularly if someone has small fingers, is going for an understated look or both -- it makes sense to choose a ring with a slimmer band. If you look at engagement rings with different band widths, you might be surprised by just how different they can look, even if there is only a seemingly minor difference in the band width.

Pick a Traditional Metal

Nowadays, people purchase diamond engagement rings in a variety of different metals. If you want to stick with a traditional and classy look, however, you might want to choose a traditional metal. For example, yellow gold or white gold might be your best choice.

Pick a Solitaire Setting

There are many different diamond settings you can choose from for an engagement ring. A solitaire setting is one of the classiest, most popular and most traditional types of settings you can choose. Basically, this means that the ring will feature just one stone. In addition to having a classy and timeless look, a solitaire engagement ring can often be one of the cheaper types of diamond engagement rings that you can buy.

Opt for a Smaller Diamond

If you want your ring to look simple and understated, you'll want to avoid buying an overly big stone. Instead, you'll probably want to stick to a smaller diamond.

Choose a Good-Quality Diamond

Of course, just because you are choosing a smaller diamond does not mean that you should purchase the cheapest diamond that is available. Instead, since you are choosing a ring with just one small stone, you'll probably want to be sure that the stone looks really nice. Since you're choosing a smaller diamond, you'll probably have a little more room in your budget to choose a higher-quality diamond.

Keep these tips in mind when looking for diamond engagement rings from suppliers near you.
